ArmInfo. The "Kocharyan case" in its current form causes Moscow's well-founded concern. This opinion was expressed by ArmInfo by Sergey Markedonov, Leading Researcher at the Institute of International Studies, MGIMO.
"First of all, by the fact that this case violates unwritten Armenian political traditions, at the same time creating quite difficult dilemmas for allied Russia. It is clear that Moscow cannot remain an indifferent witness - it does not allow its ally status. in Armenia, it is not limited to the intention to help or hinder these processes. It is simply necessary to realize and calculate the possible risks that go beyond the relationship to a particular politician or group ppe politicians ", - he said.
According to the analyst, speaking with slogans about the need for a revolutionary re-installation of the judicial system, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his supporters simultaneously questioned the very possibility of depoliticizing high-profile cases against high-ranking retirees. And here a rhetorical question arises - whether the right will be sacrificed for politics, given that breaking old institutions is primarily a political task.
Thus, the role of the defendant for stagnation in Armenia, in Markedonov's opinion, was assigned to Kocharyan. And here it should be emphasized that, even taking into account all possible mistakes, miscalculations and failures of the ex-president, it should be borne in mind that in his case, it is not the joint responsibility of the entire political class that comes to the fore, but the responsibility of one person. Accordingly, in the future, according to his forecasts, the new generations of Armenian politicians will inevitably be tempted to defeat opponents after the fact, after their resignation.
"Nikol Pashinyan cannot understand all this. Accordingly, there is a danger that in order to avoid trouble, the current leaders of Armenia will try to sit in their offices as long as possible. Accordingly, it turns out that they were aiming at authoritarianism and corruption, and they fell into democracy. In a word, there is a difficult dilemma that affects not only the reforms of the judiciary or any other system, it affects the entire political organism of Armenia, "said Markedonov.
