
ArmInfo. On September 14, the CSTO Permanent Council held a meeting chaired by Armenia's Permanent Representative to the CSTO David Virabyan.
The press office of the CSTO has told ArmInfo that CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha, Deputy Secretaries General, representatives of the CSTO Secretariat and Joint Headquarters, and other officials attended the meeting. Marcel Pe?ko, Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre, and Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, participated in the meeting for the first time.
Petko Draganov said that the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, in collaboration with the authorities, international partners and civil society of the Central Asian countries, is making its own contribution to prevention of discrepancies and violence and to promotion of democratic processes. It also campaigns for strengthening of inter-ethnic peace and keeps a close watch on potential conflicts.
For his part, Marcel Pesko said that the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre is one of the main efficient OSCE mechanisms. It supports the member states, the Chairperson-in-Office, and OSCE Secretary General in early prevention of conflicts, settlement of crises and post-conflict rehabilitation.
The members of the CSTO Permanent Council expressed their assessments of the situation in the Eurasian space and discussed other issues. The guests praised CSTO's cooperation with the UN and the OSCE.
David Virabyan summed up the results of the meeting and said the meeting was useful. He suggested making such meetings more frequent to promote the practical cooperation of the CSTO, the UN and the OSCE.
