ArmInfo. A presentation of 104-year-old WWII veteran Grant Karapetyan's memoirs, "From Great-Grandfather to Great-Grandson: The Family Saga of a WWII Veteran," was held in Yerevan.
According to the press service of the Moscow Cultural and Business Center "Moscow House" in Yerevan, the book features Karapetyan's memories of the war, decades of creative work as an architect and builder, as well as information about his ancestors, intertwined with the tragic pages of Armenian history. During the book presentation, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin noted that this publication is a clear example of how a caring attitude toward personal and family history translates into the preservation of the historical memory of an entire nation. "Grant Meliksetovich belongs to the legendary generation of victors who not only fought heroically on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War but also worked together to restore our shared homeland. And the facts presented in our dear veteran's book are invaluable not only for us but also for future generations," the ambassador emphasized.
Dialogue public charity director Yuri Navoyan, who helped publish the book, noted that publishing works by Armenian WWII veterans has already become a good tradition. "Last year, a collection of poems by 100-year-old veteran Lachin Stepanyan, "My Time, My Victory," was published. Grant Meliksetovich's book isn't just memoirs or a family chronicle, but a living history of a time that's unlikely to be found in textbooks," Navoyan said.
In turn, Colonel Simon Yesayan, Chairman of the Marshal Baghramyan Association of Armenian Veterans, emphasized that the publication of the book is a tribute to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, personified by Grant Meliksetovich, whose love for family and homeland should serve as an example for future generations.
According to the source, Grant Meliksetovich began work on the book at the age of 93 and completed it exactly on his 94th birthday. It is noted that his children and grandchildren inspired him to create the book, helping him dig through archives, old records, and photographs to reconstruct his family tree. Notably, the book's cover features a painting painted by the veteran himself in his 100-plus years.
