
ArmInfo.A delegation from Russia's Kursk Region, led by Deputy Governor Sergey Fofanov, visited Gyumri on a familiarization visit, during which they confirmed their willingness to further strengthen bilateral ties with Armenia.
According to the Gyumri Municipality press service, the meeting was aimed at strengthening the memorandum of cooperation signed in 2016 between Kursk and Gyumri. The Deputy Governor reminded that Armenia primarily imports industrial raw materials, mechanical engineering products, and confectionery from Kursk, while Armenia exports ferrous metals, clothing, and food products. He also noted the successful cooperation between the Quartz trading house and Armenian mining companies.
Acting Mayor of Gyumri Avetis Arakelyan and Deputy Mayor Gagik Manukyan highlighted the significant potential for collaboration with Kursk. They highlighted the valuable contribution of the Russian side to the city and the enhancement of bilateral relations. During the visit, the delegation visited the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, where they were welcomed by Acting Commander Andrei Medinsky. The guests lit a candle at the Church of the Martyr Queen Alexandra, built in 1842 on the military base, visited the Military History Museum, and toured the famous Black Fortress and the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. During the tour, the delegation also stopped by Kursk Square in Gyumri, established many years ago thanks to close relations and cooperation and has become a unique bridge between the sister cities. At the end of the visit, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and noted the possibility of organizing similar visits as a foundation for new practical achievements.
"The warm relations established between the two sister cities will open a new chapter, particularly in the industrial and cultural spheres, contributing to economic growth and strengthening the centuries-old friendship between their peoples. Gyumri and Kursk are ready to continue their joint path and implement all planned programs and initiatives," the Gyumri City Hall concluded.
