ArmInfo. The rise to power of Strong Armenia Party Chairman Samvel Karapetyan will mark a transitional change in the country, while Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's continued rule will transform Armenia into a de facto Turkish province. This opinion was expressed on his Facebook page by National Democratic Pole (NDP) board member Ara Papyan, referring to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia.
When asked whether the Strong Armenia Party Chairman has any other option besides a pro-Russian course, Papyan answered affirmatively. However, he said this is not the most important issue. "The point is that the region has entered a profound phase of transformation. Under these circumstances, Karapetyan's possible rule will also be transitional. Western powers will naturally be interested in power transferring to a clearly pro-Western force after this stage," the NDP member explained.
Meanwhile, in Pashinyan's case, according to him, the situation is fundamentally different. Papyan is confident that if the current Armenian prime minister is re-elected, Armenia will not be able to count on significant external support to combat Pashinyan's pro-Turkish policies.
"In this scenario, the danger of Armenia becoming a de facto Turkish vilayet becomes practically inevitable. And here two counter-questions arise: does Pashinyan have any alternative to his pro- Azerbaijani course, and what foreign and domestic policies will he continue to pursue if he remains in power," Papyan concluded.
As a reminder, the parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
