ArmInfo. The crisis that has arisen around the Strait of Hormuz amid the US and Israeli attacks on Iran could further escalate confrontation in the region. Vladimir Avatkov, head of the Middle and Post-Soviet East Department at the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Turkologist, expressed this viewpoint during a Moscow-Yerevan video conference on "Turkey and the Middle East Crisis."
As the expert noted, the lack of opportunities to make money from oil is already leading a number of countries to announce cuts in their oil production. "Only China has sufficient oil reserves here, and Russia has no issue in this regard either. As for the United States, they have reserves, but they face certain challenges related to, for example, transportation," the expert clarified.
According to Avatkov, all other countries in the world would suffer from the current situation, including Europe. As the expert noted, this crisis also affects Europe's security, which prompted the Hungarian leadership to ask Moscow to confirm the stability of Russian energy supplies.
"It's obvious that the global economy will be in turmoil now. This is predictable and will contribute to radical changes not only in the economic but also in the political system," the turkologist believes.
This is precisely why, as Avatkov noted, attempts are already being made to stop the military operations and resume shipping through the strait. Moreover, this is being done not only to restore oil supplies but also food supplies. "Countries are already concerned about how they will sustain themselves. However, the extent of Washington's interest is a separate question. It should be noted that Americans have never cared about their allies, and nothing new should be expected here," Avatkov concluded.
