ArmInfo. The preamble to the new Constitution of Armenia should not reference the Declaration of Independence. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this to journalists during a briefing on March 12.
He explained his position primarily by stating that the current Declaration of Independence is built on the logic of conflict. "We cannot follow this path and simultaneously strive to build an independent state," the head of government said. He noted, however, that he would not like to elaborate on what he means now, as he has previously expressed his position on this issue.
Earlier, Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan stated that the new text of the Armenian Constitution could be ready in March 2026. In this regard, she announced the need to launch an information campaign to inform the public. A referendum is expected to be held after the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026.
