ArmInfo.Media expert Samvel Martirosyan has warned of a new type of fraud that has already become widespread in Armenia. The primary target of such attacks is the elderly.
As Martirosyan noted, scammers call by phone, including through WhatsApp, and pose as telecom operators. They initiate a conversation, claiming to need to connect or configure a 5G network, and then ask to enable screen sharing. The scammers then send a file that they claim needs to be installed on the phone.
After installing this file, the scammers gain remote access to the device-all apps, including banking apps.
The media expert warns: if you or someone you love has fallen victim to such an attack, you should immediately contact your bank and block your banking apps and accounts. It is also recommended to perform a full wipe of the phone (factory reset), after saving important data, since this operation deletes photos and videos, applications, accounts (Google, Apple ID, etc.), contacts (if they are not synchronized), messages and settings.
