ArmInfo. Representatives of the "Wings of Unity" political initiative held a protest outside the Armenian Ministry of Defense, where they handed over a statement containing satellite images and coordinates confirming that Azerbaijan had advanced its positions and invaded the Republic's sovereign territory.
During the protest outside the Armenian Ministry of Defense, representatives of the political group told journalists that in the statement they handed over, they demanded that Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan either refute this information or explain why the country's authorities are silent and failing to inform the public about what is happening.
During the rally, Narek Paronyan, a member of the Wings of Unity political initiative, presented satellite photographs showing that as of July 31, 2025, Azerbaijani positions were still absent from Vardenis. However, the construction of fortifications subsequently began, placing the Sotk gold mine, the villages of Vardenis, and the interstate highway under Azerbaijani control. Paronyan expressed his conviction that the fortifications being constructed by Azerbaijan constitute staging areas for future attacks on Armenia.
"These photographs prove that Azerbaijan is gradually encroaching on our country, seizing Armenian territory, while the current authorities are once again deceiving their people. These problems cannot be resolved within the framework of border delimitation and demarcation, as this is not a border issue, but an invasion of Armenia's sovereign territory. Our political initiative will persistently demand an answer to the question of why the public is once again unaware of new Azerbaijani incursions. We will provide Papikyan with coordinates and irrefutable facts. We are confident that there are many people in the Armenian Ministry of Defense who are hostages of this regime. This is a political issue and a question of the responsibility of the ruling Civil Contract party," a member of the political initiative told journalists.
He also noted that these events took place in August 2025, that is, immediately after the signing of the Washington Declaration on August 8. In this regard, Paronyan stated that this is nothing more than another concession by the Armenian authorities. The member of the political initiative believes that the only solution to all the problems Armenia faces today is... The removal of the current regime from power. He believes that under the current leadership, the country will witness a "creeping" occupation, with the Armenian authorities giving up Armenian territories piece by piece.
"Furthermore, by taking a dominant position in Armenian territory, Azerbaijan will be able to control the entire area-interstate roads, pastures, and villages. This creates serious security problems for the people living in these areas," he stated. Another member of the political initiative, Vardan Pashayan, noted that they are confident that the authorities are aware of the advancement of Azerbaijani positions. He explained that their goal is not so much to inform the Armenian Ministry of Defense as to inform the general public about what is happening.
"We intend to show that the constantly promoted rhetoric about peace is a lie. The problem is that Azerbaijan will continue to advance deeper into Armenian territory until it reaches Yerevan. That's why all this is being done," Pashayan concluded.
As a reminder, Arman Tatoyan, leader of the Wings of Unity political initiative, previously reported that a new Azerbaijani incursion had been recorded on Armenian sovereign territory, about which the Armenian authorities had failed to inform the public. Specifically, he reported that, according to available information, they have established combat positions in Vardenis, as well as points for small arms, mortars, and other large-caliber weapons. Communications have been established, the Sotk gold mine in the Vardenis community is directly targeted, solar panels have been installed, operational-tactical and strategic roads have been constructed, and shelters have been constructed through which they can penetrate deep into Armenian territory. A similar situation, according to Tatoyan, is observed in Jermuk, where positions designed for mortars have been built. That same day, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, speaking from the podium of the country's parliament, dismissed Tatoyan's claims as lies.
