ArmInfo. By electing Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Seyed Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), Iran has demonstrated that even a powerful superpower like the United States cannot impose a convenient Iranian leader on Iran. This opinion was expressed by Iranologist Vartan Voskanyan on his Telegram channel.
According to him, by electing Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran sent several signals to the outside world. First and foremost, Voskanyan believes, this demonstrates systemic political continuity in Iran.
"Secondly, the new spiritual leader is one of the most influential figures in the Iranian deep state - a participant in the Iran-Iraq War and someone closely associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps," the Iranologist noted.
That is, as the expert explained, in a wartime environment, this choice has not only a spiritual but also a clear military-political justification. "Finally, with this choice, they are sending a signal that even a powerful superpower like the United States cannot impose its leader on Iran or influence its choice as long as the country exists as an independent state," Voskanyan concluded.
As a reminder, on the morning of February 28, the United States and Israel attacked Iran. In response, Iran launched strikes against American bases in the Middle East. As a result of the American-Israeli aggression, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking Iranian military officials were killed. On March 8, the Iranian Council of Experts elected Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Seyed Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
