ArmInfo. On 5 March Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov.
During the conversation, the Ministers exchanged views on recent developments in the region. The sides expressed concern and noted the importance of refraining from actions that could further escalate tensions, emphasizing the need to ensure stability and security.
The Ministers noted with satisfaction the importance of sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
On March 5, Azerbaijan announced that four Iranian drones had attacked Nakhchivan. In response, the Iranian ambassador was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. Moreover, on the same day, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev convened the country's Security Council and decided to rattle his sabre in front of Iran. As usual, Aliyev threatened Azerbaijan with an "iron fist," calling the incident terrorism, and promising a retaliatory strike. Furthermore, Azerbaijan closed its border with Iran and suspended checkpoints with Iran. Interestingly, all of these actions occurred after Iran, through its Foreign Ministry and General Staff, had already denied any involvement in the attack on Nakhchivan airport. However, independent experts are inclined to believe that Azerbaijan is thus preparing the ground for possible involvement in the conflict against Iran on the side of the United States and Israel.
