ArmInfo.Graduates of the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy will immediately receive an apartment after completing their four-year course of study. This was announced by RA Defense Minister Suren Papikyan at the plenary session of the National Assembly of Armenia on March 3.
According to him, 35 million drams will be allocated from the state budget for each academy graduate to address their housing needs.
Each graduate will receive a certificate for the purchase of real estate in Yerevan or the country's regions. However, each academy cadet and future officer is required to complete a 20-year military service term.
Furthermore, Papikyan continued, each officer graduating with honors from the academy will be able to receive a monthly salary of 620,000 to 750,000 drams. "Name me a single profession that would allow an RA citizen to receive such a salary and an apartment immediately after graduating?" the minister asked, adding that it's difficult to find a field where a 21-22-year-old, upon completing his studies, would immediately receive an apartment and a high salary, as well as numerous other state guarantees.
It's worth noting that today, Papikyan presented amendments to the law "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen" in their second and final reading. These amendments propose changing some requirements for the certification of military personnel. Specifically, participants in the "Defender of the Fatherland" program who have completed the necessary training and received positions in the Armed Forces are now exempt from certification exams.
Also, officers who have completed training at military educational institutions will be considered certified based on their final assessments.
In both cases, salary increases will be accrued immediately upon appointment. Around 4,000 participants in the "Defender of the Fatherland" program have already transitioned to contract service, and this process continues. Contract service members are entitled to one-time bonuses upon signing a new contract after five years of service: 1.5 million drams for two years; 5 million drams for five years.
These legislative changes are aimed at increasing the motivation of service members and accelerating the process of forming a professional army.
