ArmInfo. Americanist Suren Sargsyan believes the likelihood of US missile strikes on Iran is extremely high."The likelihood that the US will strike Iran in the coming days is extremely high. Negotiations appear to be yielding no results. The US military presence around Iran has reached one of the highest levels in history. Theoretically, the US Army could begin military operations as early as tomorrow," the expert wrote on his Facebook page.
At the same time, Sargsyan believes that the structure of the military presence indicates that the Pentagon is not considering any ground operations-at least for now-and that the operation will be conducted through missile strikes.
"One question remains open for me: will America strike only at military and economic infrastructure, or is the goal to overthrow Iran's political leadership? This, of course, raises the question of why the US missed the opportunity to strike Iran during active protests. Most likely, the calculation was that afterward, the Iranian government would be weaker, with less domestic and external support," he added.
The Americanist is certain of one thing: if war breaks out, it will be the first direct confrontation between the US and Iran on such a scale in history, or, in other words, a full-scale war, and the likelihood of its outbreak is historically high.
On February 18, the second round of US-Iran nuclear talks concluded in Geneva. According to media reports, in addition to nuclear issues, possible economic agreements were discussed. That same day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Washington's intention to try to resolve differences with Tehran diplomatically.
