ArmInfo. The Armenian government is not currently in talks with the EU to extend the mandate of the EU civilian mission in the country, which expires in February 2027. Markus Ritter, the head of the EU civilian mission in Armenia, told reporters as he concludes his mission in the country.
According to him, the mission's mandate will stay the same until next year. Ritter added that after that, the Armenian government will discuss their vision for future cooperation with the EU. When asked by a journalist to clarify the matter of extending their mission, Ritter reiterated that there are currently no ongoing discussions about it. "There are no discussions at this time. The Armenian government has openly asked us to continue monitoring the border and visiting border villages. This is exactly what we will do until the peace treaty is signed and ratified by both sides," he said.
The observer also reported that, to date, the EU mission has conducted 7,780 patrols from north to south. "I can say that since August 2025, we have not recorded a single incident, and the situation has been much calmer," Ritter assured. He added that they currently see no preconditions for tension on the border.
