ArmInfo. The system of new biometric passports and ID cards will begin to be implemented in Armenia this fall. This was announced at a press conference on February 13 by RA Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan.
According to her, every effort is being made to ensure these deadlines are met, and the biometric passport system will begin to operate this fall. Work is currently underway on the design of the documents, which will soon be presented to the public. Production will then begin.
At the same time, as the Minister noted, old passports will remain in circulation until their full expiration date. However, citizens who wish to exchange their old documents for new ones before the expiration date will be able to do so without any problems. Reservation systems will be implemented to manage queues, and all citizen data will be transmitted online to passport offices, where the process will be completed within a few minutes. In this regard, a prototype of the new offices is being developed. As for the prices for the new system, the minister noted that they have not yet been finalized. Unlike standard passports, the prices will change.
