ArmInfo. Armenia has seen an increase in infant mortality, despite government assurances of healthcare reform. This was reported on her Facebook page by Anush Poghosyan, head of the Right to Health organization.
According to the graph, the infant mortality rate in Armenia will rapidly increase starting in 2024. Poghosyan noted that in 2025, an increase in mortality was recorded even among children aged 0 to 1 year: 207 cases compared to 188 in 2024.
"Every child death is a signal of the failure of the healthcare system, especially when it comes to preventable causes. Specifically, the lack of timely diagnosis, unavailability or delays in medical care, and problems with the quality of neonatal (health maintenance, care, and treatment of newborns in the first 28 days of life - ed.) and child care," Poghosyan noted.
Thus, according to her, despite statements about "reforms" in healthcare, statistics show that the results do not match these promises. "If the system were truly functioning effectively, the reduction in child mortality should be stable and continuous, rather than dependent on annual fluctuations," Poghosyan concluded.
It is worth noting that, according to the RA Statistics Committee, 32,042 children were born in Armenia in 2025, a 4.6% decrease from the previous year. The number of stillbirths was 389, a 12.8% annual decrease. During the reporting period, 219 children aged 0 to 1 year died in the country (compared to 209 in 2024).
