ArmInfo. Ukrainian authorities have begun planning for presidential elections and a referendum on a peace agreement with Russia, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
"Ukraine has begun planning for a presidential election and a referendum on a peace deal with Russia after the administration of US President Donald Trump pressured Kyiv to hold both votes by May 15, lest Ukraine risk losing the security guarantees offered by the US," the report stated.
According to the newspaper's sources, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to announce plans to hold the presidential elections and referendum on February 24.
Earlier, US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker assured that Washington is not setting a precise date by which to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. He called setting deadlines under the current circumstances a "very dangerous" decision.
Last week, another round of talks between US, Russian, and Ukrainian delegations took place in Abu Dhabi.
On February 7, the US President stated that negotiations on Ukraine were going very well and that something could happen as a result. (INTERFAX)
