ArmInfo. The CSTO's legal framework does not provide for a membership freeze. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated this in an interview with Rossiya-24, responding to a question about Armenia's membership in the organization.
Kopyrkin recalled that in recent days, Armenian authorities have publicly reiterated that this frozen status will not change. In this vein, he reiterated Russia's position, which is that Armenia remains a full member of the CSTO. "As for the freezing format, it is not provided for in the organization's legal framework. We believe there is no alternative, reliable mechanism for ensuring security in the region. As for the problems that have arisen in terms of interaction with the CSTO, I believe we can always find solutions within the CSTO, as partners, including compromises on the accumulated problems," the Russian diplomat said.
As a reminder, Armenia boycotts CSTO events. In February 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had effectively frozen its participation in the CSTO because the organization had failed to fulfill its obligations to Armenia, which could not go without consequences. On September 18, 2024, at the Second Armenian World Summit, Pashinyan stated that the CSTO poses threats to Armenia's security, its continued existence, sovereignty, and statehood.
