ArmInfo. The Azerbaijani authorities continue to falsify history: references to the Moscow and Kars Treaties have been removed from the preamble of the Constitution of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.
According to Azerbaijani media, the Azerbaijani parliament today approved amendments to the draft constitutional law of Azerbaijan "On Approval of Amendments to the Constitution of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic."
With a single stroke of the pen, the Azerbaijani authorities removed from the preamble of the current Constitution the reference to Nakhichevan's autonomy being established by international treaties-the Treaty of Moscow of March 16, 1921, and the Treaty of Kars of October 13, 1921, both of which are currently in effect-replacing it with the statement that the region "is an integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
Nakhichevan, before being transferred to the control of the Azerbaijani SSR in the early 1920s, was part of Armenia and a region with a predominantly Armenian population. Today, the Azerbaijani authorities have completely erased any trace of Armenian presence in the region.
