
ArmInfo Swiss Ambassador to Armenia Andrea Barbara Baumann held separate meetings with representatives of the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, as well as the opposition "Armenia" and "With Honor" factions in Parliament.
According to the press service of the Armenian Parliament, Hayk Konjoryan highly appreciated the close cooperation between Armenia and Switzerland and the support of the Swiss Government for the development of democratic institutions in the country and the establishment of long-term peace in the region. The interlocutors discussed issues regarding regional developments. Also, reference was made to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project.
At a meeting with Baumann, Seyran Ohanyan, head of the opposition faction "Armenia" and former Minister of Defense, expressed gratitude to the Swiss side for its continued support on important and sensitive issues for Armenia. While emphasizing their commitment to peace in the region, Ohanyan also expressed disagreement with the Armenian authorities' foreign and domestic policies on several issues. Specifically, he pointed out the issue of Armenian prisoners of war illegally held in Azerbaijani prisons and missing persons, as well as the realization of the right of return of Artsakh residents forcibly displaced from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. In turn, Baumann assured that parliamentary cooperation and the expansion of relations with Armenia will continue. She expressed support for the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and presented the Swiss government's position that the sovereignty of the two countries must be protected within the framework of international law. The parties also exchanged views on ongoing democratic processes in Armenia, the upcoming parliamentary elections, the return of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, as well as external and internal challenges.
Tigran Abrahamyan, Secretary of the opposition faction "With Honor," discussed recent developments in the South Caucasus with the Ambassador. He shared his views on Armenia's domestic and foreign policy, talked about the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey, and raised the issue of the return of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku. The Swiss diplomat emphasized the importance of cooperation with Armenia and noted that the Swiss government supports the peace-building efforts in the region.
