ArmInfo. The issue of the $1 billion needed for participation in the "Peace Council" created by US President Donald Trump requires further discussion. Sargis Khandanyan, Chairman of the RA National Assembly Committee on Foreign Relations, told reporters on January 20.
US President Donald Trump invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to join the "Peace Council" on Gaza. The prime minister accepted the invitation, according to Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the prime minister's spokesperson. According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is asking countries seeking a permanent seat on the "Peace Council" to contribute at least $1 billion.
In this regard, Khandanyan noted that it is necessary to understand what other obligations will be imposed on states based on the statutory requirements. However, the parliamentarian continued, it is crucial that Armenia received the invitation to join the Council. Last year, a peace forum was held in Egypt under Trump's chairmanship, which was also attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Essentially, the new invitation is a continuation of the previous process.
As for the $1 billion contribution, according to the commission head, it is important to understand whether the country's state budget has the capacity to do so.
