ArmInfo. The investigative body has filed a motion to extend the house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir State Concern. The matter will be discussed by the Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan today at 4:00 PM. Karapetyan will not attend the hearing, lawyer Aram Vardevanyan reported on social media.
He recalled that Karapetyan's arrest, which had been in effect since June 18, 2025, was replaced by house arrest and additional restrictions on December 30. However, on the first working day of 2026, January 5, the prosecutor's office appealed this decision.
The Court of Appeals accepted the prosecutor's office's appeals and ours for consideration on January 12 and set January 16 as the date for the publication of the decision.
At the same time, the investigative body filed a motion to extend the house arrest (by law, they cannot file any other motions), and therefore a retrial was scheduled today at 4:00 PM in the Anti-Corruption Court. "Dear compatriots, Samvel Karapetyan will not participate in today's court hearing," the lawyer wrote.
As a reminder, on November 18, the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia extended Karapetyan's arrest for another two months. The businessman was detained by law enforcement on June 18, and the court later remanded him in custody on charges of calling for the overthrow of the constitutional order due to his support for the Armenian Apostolic Church. Notably, Karapetyan's arrest was preceded by threatening posts from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which lawyers view as an attempt to directly interfere with the investigation and law enforcement. Following Karapetyan's arrest, the authorities effectively took over the management of the Electric Networks of Armenia company from the Karapetyan family, appointing Romanos Petrosyan, a member of the Civil Contract party, as its manager. Karapetyan's charges were later amended to include money laundering, but the court found these charges unfounded.
