ArmInfo. Forcing the consumption of Azerbaijani goods on Armenian residents under the guise of a fictitious peace is aimed at dulling the psychological vigilance of the Armenian people and trampling on their national dignity. This was stated in a statement by the press service of the Council of the National Democratic Pole (NDP), following the import of the first batch of Azerbaijani gasoline to Armenia in three decades.
The NDP recalled that all of this is essentially happening after Azerbaijan committed war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Artsakh in 2023. The political party is convinced that the import of Azerbaijani gasoline into the country is part of the same goal as the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC): the erasure of Armenianness as a state and spiritual entity.
The Council then presented the short-, medium-, and long-term prospects of such a move for the authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Thus, in the short term, according to the source, this move is aimed at re- establishing the power of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"The organization of the purchase of Azerbaijani gasoline by the collaborationist government that seized power in Armenia and the frantic search for transport routes for its continuous importation are aimed in the short term at ensuring the re-election of the Armenian prime minister, who has become subservient to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, by staging illusions of peace and economic cooperation," the NDP explained.
In the medium and long term, according to the NDP, this move is part of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem's policy of absorbing Armenia and will in no way contribute to the country's exit from the blockade or its economic recovery.
As a reminder, on December 19, the first train carrying petroleum products from Azerbaijan via Georgia arrived in Armenia. According to the Armenian government's press service, 22 railcars of gasoline, weighing 1,300 tons, were delivered based on an agreement reached on November 28 in Gabala during a meeting between the two countries' deputy prime ministers, Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev. Many experts believe this move is not aimed at lifting the transit blockade, but rather at demonstrating the achievement of peace between the countries ahead of the Armenian elections scheduled for 2026.
