ArmInfo. The Armenian Ministry of Health warns: Animal rabies is a deadly viral disease transmitted from animals to humans. The main sources of infection are dogs, cats, foxes, wolves, hedgehogs, and bats.
Infection is possible through a sick animal's bite, scratch, or saliva on broken skin. The latent period of the disease in humans can vary from 1 week to 1 year and is determined by the location and severity of the injury/bite.
In case of injury from an animal, immediately wash the wound with soap and running water. It is also important to vaccinate domestic animals against rabies, and avoid contact with stray and wild animals.
It is important to know that there is no specific treatment for rabies. Preventive vaccinations are also considered treatment. If you are injured by an animal, seek immediate medical attention for prophylactic rabies vaccination. Prophylactic rabies vaccination is available at primary healthcare facilities, regardless of registration or citizenship, and is free of charge.
