ArmInfo. The planned energy corridor through Nakhchivan must be implemented as soon as possible and the Azerbaijani-Turkish energy alliance must be strengthened. Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz made this statement during the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Yilmaz noted that the foundation laid by Azerbaijan and Turkey in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline projects has now become a guarantee of Europe's energy security thanks to TANAP. "However, our vision cannot be limited to transporting oil and gas through pipelines alone. We are not a transit country delivering Caspian resources to the West; we are strategic hubs where energy is managed and energy security is ensured. In this regard, our energy cooperation should be diversified, also encompassing renewable energy sources, and the planned energy corridor through Nakhchivan must be implemented as soon as possible to strengthen our energy alliance," the Turkish official added, according to APA.
Yilmaz also noted that the Middle Corridor, known as the "Silk Road of the 21st Century," has today gained vital importance like never before in relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. "All eyes are on the Middle Corridor, passing through the Caspian Sea. However, turning this potential into a logistical opportunity is in our hands. In this way, the keystones of the modern Silk Road will be set in place. The fate of trade stretching from the Great Wall of China to Europe will be shaped by the unbreakable alliance of Turkey and Azerbaijan," he concluded.
