
ArmInfo. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has called on believers to remain calm and not to succumb to the provocative statements of bishops who have joined Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's anti-church campaign.
According to the press office of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), this statement came in response to the public outrage and unrest caused by the statement of 10 bishops. "Let your actions be manifested in universal prayer, solidarity, and unity. The steadfastness of Holy Etchmiadzin is your devotion to your homeland and the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church," Etchmiadzin emphasized.
Furthermore, the Armenian Apostolic Church called for vigilance to the bishops who took the initiative for the risky gathering at the Mother See. "Responsibility must be shown to keep the people away from disastrous upheavals and to act exclusively in accordance with the canonical procedures of the Church. There is no need to exploit the people's cherished feelings, and a with a well-known false agenda sow discord among the pious children of the Church, disrupting the peace and prayerful atmosphere of the Armenian spiritual center," the Mother See concluded.
Recall, 10 bishops who had previously joined Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's anti-church campaign launched in May, called on citizens to join their demand for the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on December18. Following this announcement, many public figures and opposition representatives expressed their intention to attend the service at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on that day to demonstrate their support for Karekin II. The Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church also released a statement, announcing the postponement of the service and its holding at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin amidst the demands for the resignation of the Catholicos of All Armenians
