ArmInfo. A statement by Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, is a direct and blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Armenia, pursuing clear political goals. Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of parliament from the opposition bloc "Armenia," wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the EU official's statement paves the way for restricting, suppressing, or neutralizing the activities of opposition political forces during the pre-election period under various pretexts, influencing the electoral will and preferences of Armenian citizens.
"In fact, the European Union representative is declaring her intention to interfere in Armenia's domestic political processes at the most sensitive stage, directly influencing the formation of the government, while disrespecting the right of Armenian citizens to independent choice. This is being done openly and without disguise. We assess this as the beginning of an extremely dangerous process that could deal a serious blow to Armenia's political system as a whole, regardless of political stance. Such statements provide a green light for lawlessness, violence, and political persecution. Therefore, we urge all opposition political forces in Armenia to clearly and publicly express their position on such statements and processes in order to prevent interference in our internal affairs, possible pressure, violence, and attempts to distort the will of citizens. The only subject that can shape power in Armenia is the Armenian people, and any external interference is a direct attack on our sovereignty," Saghatelyan stated.
