ArmInfo. On Sunday, December 14, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will attend the holy and immortal liturgy at the Church of St. Gevorg in the village of Aygeshat in the Metsamor community of the Armavir region.
Pashinyan announced this during a Facebook live broadcast.
As Pashinyan previously stated, these liturgies are part of the program "for the liberation of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the renewal of the Armenian Apostolic Church." The first such liturgy was held in Hovhannavank, celebrated by defrocked monk Stepan Asatryan. Pashinyan then attended liturgies at the Church of the Holy Mother of God in Talin, Aragatsotn Province, the Church of the Holy Mother of God in the village of Khachik, Vayots Dzor, and the Church of Saint Hakob in the village of Ararat, Ararat Province. On November 12, speaking to reporters, the prime minister stated that he would only pray at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin after he "felt sufficiently purified." Pashinyan's final liturgy, on December 7, was held at the Church of the Seven Wounds (Surb Yot Verk) in Gyumri. Let us recall that since May 29, when Pashinyan compared Armenian churches to closets at a government meeting, and his wife, Anna Hakobyan, called clergy the country's main pedophiles, the head of the Armenian cabinet has been declaring that Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II has broken his vow of celibacy, and therefore, in his opinion, should resign. He promises to provide evidence if the latter decide to challenge his accusations in court.
During this period, he announced his decision to create a special coordination group to remove the Catholicos, and he participates in liturgies conducted either by defrocked clergy or by those who supported his call for the defrocking of Garegin II. He recently announced a "roadmap for the renewal of the Armenian Apostolic Church after the departure of Ktrich Nesrisyan" (the secular name of Garegin II).
