ArmInfo. The defense's complaints regarding the unlawful extension of the arrest of businessman and head of the Tashir Group, Samvel Karapetyan, have been accepted for review by Judge Zhenya Meliksetyan of the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals. Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan shared this information on his Facebook page.
The lawyer also stated that the court will conduct the hearing in writing, despite the defense's motion for an oral hearing. Vardevanyan also stated that the court's decision is set for December 11, 2025, and the deadline for submitting written positions and explanations is December 10, inclusive. "It's worth noting that the world celebrates Human Rights Day on December 10, marking the adoption of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the same day in 1948. I am certain that in 1948, on the day the declaration was adopted, no one could have imagined that the prohibition on arbitrary detention, enshrined in Article 9 of the Universal Declaration, would be so ignored, denied, and downplayed in Armenia in 2025," the lawyer lamented.
He noted that Samvel Karapetyan's political persecution and detention, which has lasted for over five months, were triggered by a statement he made in defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
