ArmInfo. Armenian Ambassador to France Arman Khachatryan met with Military Advisor to the French President, Chief of the Special Military Staff, Army General Vincent Giraud.
According to the press service of the French Embassy in Armenia, a wide range of issues related to the friendly relations between Armenia and France, including defense cooperation, were discussed during the meeting. Khachatryan presented the agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington, as well as Armenia's efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus. The interlocutors also discussed regional security issues.
It is worth noting that on September 27, 2023, then-French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced the appointment of a French military attache in Yerevan to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation. Already in early October of that year, France responded positively to Armenia's request for military assistance amid the threat posed by Azerbaijan. On October 22-23, during a meeting between French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in Paris, an agreement on arms supplies to Yerevan was announced. The agreements included the supply of three Thales Ground Master 200 (GM200) radars and a memorandum of understanding for the supply of Mistral short-range air defense systems. Another contract was signed for Yerevan to acquire night-vision binoculars, manufactured by Safran. Armenia agreed to purchase 50 Bastion-type light armored vehicles from France.
