ArmInfo. The ongoing efforts towards a lasting peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia open a historic opportunity for the wider Black Sea region, as stated by Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili during his speech at the 66th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).
"Peace has already been achieved on the ground, thus transforming the security landscape of the South Caucasus and opening up immense potential for the entire Black Sea region from an economic and connectivity perspective. We also welcome steps to normalize relations between Armenia and Turkey," Papuashvili said, according to Georgian media. Additionally, he noted that the Black Sea region's strategic, economic, and security significance has grown significantly in recent years. "Our geographic space, connecting Europe and Asia, has always been at the crossroads of civilizations. Today, despite numerous challenges and a challenging geopolitical environment, we must unite our efforts in all areas of cooperation that will make our region more stable, secure, and developing. In this context, peace is the most fundamental prerequisite. Long-term peace is not only a desirable condition, but also the foundation upon which prosperity, sustainability, and shared growth must be built," the parliamentarian noted.
Papuashvili highlighted initiatives that, he said, could play a decisive role in f connectivity. "We believe that connectivity-physical, digital, economic, and human-must become one of the central pillars of our cooperation. In this context, the Middle Corridor has emerged as an important, fast, efficient, and secure route. We remain fully committed to developing the infrastructure, related policies, and partnerships that will enhance its capabilities and competitiveness. Flagship initiatives such as the Black Sea submarine cable, fiber-optic cable, and the Black Sea maritime services can play a decisive role in the area of connectivity. We are committed to accelerating the implementation of these initiatives," he concluded.
