ArmInfo. Arman Petrosyan, a participant in the 44-day Artsakh war of 2020, is holding a sit-in protest outside the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office in support of Lidia Mantashyan, the only female political prisoner in Armenia and a member of the "Sacred Struggle" movement, and is facing charges of terrorism and attempting to seize power by force.
As Petrosyan noted in an interview with journalists, Mantashyan has been behind bars since June of this year without a valid charge or a court verdict. He stated that the sit-in will continue until Mantashyan is released. "If today in Armenia we have to speak in hushed tones about problems, then we can consider the country as occupied by the enemy. But we will not remain silent and will keep speaking the truth," the hero of the 44-day war emphasized.
He noted that with this action, he is trying to draw the attention of the Armenian public to the ongoing right-wing abuses and to secure Mantashyan's swift release. "I am holding this sit-in because society remains silent today and is inactive. Moreover, women's rights organizations and other human rights organizations are silent. I also appeal to representatives of the arts and to members of the Armenian parliament, especially women. Moreover, I would like to point out that the Prosecutor General of Armenia is also a woman. They must understand that any of them could end up in Lidia Mantashyan's place," Petrosyan emphasized.
