ArmInfo. On October 16, the Anti-Corruption Court demanded that the Investigative Committee of Armenia either refer the case to court or dismiss it regarding the "conscription" episode. The investigative body, comprised of 53 investigators, continued its policy of utter inaction and disrespect for the court. Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan wrote about this on his Facebook account.
Vardevanyan recalled that on October 16, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court extended Samvel Karapetyan's pretrial detention for one month, once again finding a lack of reasonable suspicion on economic charges. Both the defense and the state prosecution filed appeals against the court's decision.
Meanwhile, the defense expected the arrest to be immediately lifted and a finding of a lack of reasonable suspicion on the "conscription" episode to be established. The prosecutor's office, however, demanded that a reasonable suspicion be established on the economic charges and that the actual detention period be reduced to two months. However, the Court of Appeal upheld the Anti-Corruption Court's decision.
As a reminder, on October 16, the Anti-Corruption Court demanded that the investigative body either refer the case to court or dismiss it in the "call" episode. The investigative body, consisting of 53 investigators, once again recorded decisive inaction and disrespect for the judicial decision.
Furthermore, on October 24, the Cassation Court accepted the prosecutor's office's unfounded complaint, and it is clear that, in the context of political persecution, a record-breaking speed of judicial decision- making is expected. I predicted that the Cassation Court would not administer justice at all, since the complaint bears the name of Samvel Karapetyan, and the plaintiff is the prosecutor's office. Incidentally, I have studied in detail the practice of accepting cases for proceedings and issuing decisions by the Anti- Corruption Chamber of the Cassation Court, and so far there has not been a single case in which the Cassation Court has issued a decision within even a month.
And, reminder #3: Samvel Karapetyan was clearly illegally arrested for approximately five months solely for his speech in defense of the Mother See, the lawyer wrote.
Tashir Group President Samvel Karapetyan has been in custody since June 18, 2025. By decision of the Anti-Corruption Court, his arrest has been extended until November 17. He is accused of three counts: public calls for the seizure of power (following his public support for the Armenian Apostolic Church), large-scale tax evasion, and money laundering.
On October 16, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the investigative team's motion, extending Karapetyan's pretrial detention by one month. The court once again found a lack of reasonable suspicion of the economic crimes with which Samvel Karapetyan was accused in July. The investigative team did not terminate the case, but apparently included new information in the motion. Moreover, the court also established the absence of even reasonable suspicions in the new economic charges brought on October 7, 2025," Samvel Karapetyan's defense noted at the time.
