Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made these remarks to reporters on a plane returning from Azerbaijan, where he participated in a parade marking the 5th anniversary of the aggression against Artsakh.
Erdogan recalled that five years ago, Turkey provided decisive support to Azerbaijan in its aggression against Artsakh. The Turkish leader also noted that relations, which reached the alliance level after the signing of the Shushi Declaration in 2021, are strengthening due to concrete projects in all areas. The President noted that bilateral relations were discussed during his current visit, and the celebrations were attended by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, along with ministers and representatives from many countries.
"Today, I also had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Shahbaz Sharif. We discussed our relations, as well as measures to prevent the recent military escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan. As is known, together with Qatar, we are conducting a mediation process to end the conflict between these two brotherly countries. Our goal is to implement measures and mechanisms that will ensure a sustainable ceasefire and permanently end terrorist incidents in the region," the Turkish leader stated.
The Turkish President also noted that he welcomed the steps taken in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He repeatedly expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached by the parties on August 8 in Washington. Erdogan added that after more than 30 years of instability in the South Caucasus, a window of opportunity has opened for lasting peace and tranquility. "The rapid completion of the peace will position Azerbaijan, the victor of the war, as an architect of peace in the region," Erdogan said.
When asked about the most critical moment of Turkey's support in the Karabakh war and whether this example would serve as a guide for member countries of the Organization of Turkic States, Erdogan noted that the victory in Karabakh "is not only a victory for Azerbaijan, but for the entire Turkic world."
"After the victory, the winds of peace are blowing in the region, and we, as Turkey, are happy about this. We are also pursuing the process of normalizing relations with Armenia in sync with Azerbaijan," the head of state said, according to Anadolu Agency.
