ArmInfo. During a briefing on November 6, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urged media representatives to carefully verify certain statements or events.
Specifically, pointing to the Azerbaijani president's assertion that the name Sevan is not mentioned on Tsarist Russian maps, but rather a name called Goycha, the Prime Minister noted that none of the Armenian journalists had even attempted to determine whether this map actually exists. Pashinyan emphasized that in his recent speech, Aliyev didn't say there is no Sevan, but rather mentioned Goycha according to Tsarist Russian maps. "The map they're referring to, Armenia is labeled as 'Armenia,' and there's no Azerbaijan at all. How can we comment on that? And who said these are Azerbaijani names? They're Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Mongolian, Russian. But what does that change? Nothing," the Prime Minister noted, adding that if this map is published and proves unfavorable for Armenia, it could prove doubly unfavorable for Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan called this a futile exercise, since if maps from earlier eras are used as a guide, it could turn out that neither the Republic of Armenia nor the Republic of Azerbaijan exist. This topic, he said, appears even more pointless in light of the agreements reached in Washington on August 8. The Prime Minister once again called it a pointless topic, especially after the agreements reached on August 8, 2025.
