ArmInfo. Armenia is establishing a military attache position at the RA Embassy in Cyprus. The decision was approved on October 30 at a regular meeting of the RA government.
As stated in the explanatory note to the document, the existing friendly and mutually supportive relations between Armenia and Cyprus, and cooperation between the two countries, are primarily implemented through bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus and Armenia and Greece. However, both countries have significant potential and prospects for further development of defense and military-technical relations. Thus, the friendly and respectful relations that have developed between the two countries serve as a solid foundation for expanding Armenian-Cypriot cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The significant potential for military cooperation and the Cypriot side's recent interest in deepening cooperation have led to the establishment of a military attache of the Republic of Armenia in the Republic of Cyprus.
The presence of a military attache in Cyprus will facilitate the further development of defense cooperation between the two countries and will give new impetus to joint defense activities. The presence of a military attache will ensure that defense relations reach a higher level of partnership.
The position of the Military Attache in Cyprus will be combined with the position of the Military Attache of the Republic of Armenia in the Hellenic Republic.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, within its authority, organizes cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and foreign states in the military, military-political, and military-technical spheres. The Military Attache accredited in Cyprus will be responsible for representative work, which includes establishing and deepening official ties with the military ministries of the two countries, developing military relations, overseeing the implementation of cooperation programs, and facilitating visits by delegations from the Ministry and the Armed Forces. The military attache, having established official relations with the command of the armed forces of the host state, at the invitation of the local military department, will ensure the official representation of the Armenian side at military parades, exercises, maneuvers, exhibitions of weapons and military equipment, and will also visit military educational institutions, enterprises of the military-industrial complex, etc. Upon the instruction of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia and with the mediation of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the military attache may carry out observation functions in the manner established by the norms of international law," the explanatory note to the document states.
