ArmInfo. Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex to inspect the progress and quality of the work.
Responsible representatives of the contractor informed the minister that the repair and reinforcement of the roof drainage systems of the museum and administrative buildings are nearing completion, which will eliminate the problem of rainwater infiltration. At the same time, landscaping and improvement work in the surrounding area of the memorial continues according to the approved schedule.
Furthermore, the completed restoration of the steles of the Armenian Genocide Monument was presented.
Zhanna Andreasyan noted the importance of the specialists' consistent and responsible work, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to high quality standards and deadlines. It should be noted that several days earlier, members of the Chamber of Architects of Armenia sent an open letter to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, demanding a comprehensive scientific study of the memorial, including photometric, ultrasound, materials science, geological, geophysical, and other studies. They also demanded that the existing waterproofing and drainage projects be assessed as inadequate, with the goal of immediately developing new solutions by a new professional group. The letter calls for a new restoration project to be commissioned for the Armenian Genocide Memorial, including solutions for restoring the three already damaged steles, as well as a separate project for preserving the nine surviving historic steles.
The document, signed by 172 architects, states that the current work is being carried out with faulty architectural and engineering design solutions, which is compromising the monument's structural stability and detracting from its original appearance and expressiveness.
