ArmInfo. Yesterday's events in Gyumri demonstrated that the political majority does not accept the will of the people, as stated by Artsvik Minasyan, secretary of the "Armenia" opposition faction, in the National Assembly on October 21.
According to him, the ruling party demonstrates its anti-people, anti-democratic, and in some cases, immoral image almost daily. Yesterday's events in Gyumri are clear evidence of this.
"Firstly, they discredit people through an information campaign, after which they are attacked with every possible method and resource. No one has the right to violate Article 66 of the Constitution, which upholds the principle of the presumption of innocence. Meanwhile, when government officials 'nail' people about alleged crimes, it indicates their illegal actions and violations of the foundations of the RA Constitution," the opposition figure stated.
In response, RA Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan pointed out that Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, just six months after being elected, accepted a bribe, "swallowed it," and was caught. Rubinyan noted that this man hasn't changed. Against this backdrop, Rubinyan continued, both opposition factions in the National Assembly actively support the bribe-taker. "I thought he would change after his election, but it appears he hasn't," the Deputy Speaker emphasized.
