ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities themselves admit that the corridor's route through the country has not yet been determined. Artur Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition "Armenia" faction, told journalists this on October 13.
According to him, if the route is finally finalized, they should announce it, along with who has been awarded the right to construct it. In any case, as Khachatryan noted, the Armenian side must be prepared for such concepts as "big market" and "small market." Currently, the Armenian government is doing nothing to protect the Armenian market from Turkish expansion. If the Trump International Peace and Prosperity Project (TIRPP) is implemented, the first blow will be dealt to the country's agriculture, followed by the textile industry. Meanwhile, these two sectors of the Armenian economy are of vital social importance. The MP recalled the situation in 2021, when an embargo was imposed on goods from Turkey, and how this benefited the country's economy and its citizens.
Overall, as the parliamentarian noted, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's policies have always led not to peace, but to war, suffering, and increased external risks. "In his policies, he resorts to the psychological trick of saying, 'The people elected me, and if you're against me, you're against the people.' No, we're not against the people, because you were elected on completely different promises. And anyway, what kind of peace can we talk about when a significant portion of your territory is occupied by an enemy that brazenly interferes in your internal affairs? For example, demands for the RA Constitution are proof of this interference," Khachatryan said, recalling that before the agreement was initialed in Washington, Azerbaijan consistently shelled the country's Syunik region. Essentially, this is a peace imposed on Armenia.
The MP emphasized that in the TIRPP project, the Armenian side should be interested not in the 42- kilometer railway section, but in the Yereskhi-Sadarak section. "If the last section doesn't exist, what are we even talking about? What will building just a 42-kilometer section achieve? The authorities always talk about completely unblocking the region's communications. Meanwhile, a complete unblocking should also include the Ijevan-Kazakh road, which would be much shorter both toward Georgia and toward southern Armenia. But since this doesn't exist, we're dealing with obligations imposed by Azerbaijan," the opposition figure said, recalling the authorities' promises to open three checkpoints-in Sotk, Ereskhe, and Karahunj-which have never been accomplished.
