ArmInfo.Yerevan is enveloped in smog caused by a fire at the city's garbage dump in Nubarashen.
The air in the city is permeated with the smell of burning and chemicals. In the midst of public discontent, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan made another statement. "By dawn, the fire at the Nubarashen landfill was nearly extinguished. However, heavy smoke still lingers. Currently, approximately 20 pieces of specialized equipment are deployed at the landfill: cranes and trucks from the Rescue Service, the Yerevan Garbage Removal and Sanitation utility, and contractors are working to cover the area with soil to eliminate the smoke. In the past two days, 248 trucks of soil have been delivered to the landfill," the mayor wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, to monitor the Nubarashen landfill and ensure compliance with safety regulations, preparatory work has begun to install an outdoor lighting system, CCTV cameras, and fences. A strict security regime has been implemented at the entrance.
The fire broke out on the night of October 10. The Yerevan mayor is confident that it was a deliberate arson and promised to hold all responsible parties accountable. Environmentalists believe the city is currently experiencing an environmental disaster, with citizens forced to breathe toxic fumes, thereby harming their health.
