ArmInfo.Armenia has welcomed the Gaza ceasefire deal and lauded the 'tireless efforts' of mediators led by U.S. President Donald Trump.
"We welcome the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which also secures the release of hostages and ensures free access of humanitarian aid, reached through the tireless efforts of mediators led by U.S. President Donald Trump," the Armenian foreign ministry said in a post on X. "We hope this agreement will pave the way for lasting peace & stability in the Middle East."
On the night of October 10, the Israeli Cabinet of Ministers approved a ceasefire agreement with the radical Hamas movement. As the Israeli Prime Minister's Office explained to RBC, the ceasefire will take effect immediately. The agreement itself was signed earlier, on October 9, in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. It was based on US President Donald Trump's plan, released last week.
During the first phase of the ceasefire, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw its troops to previously agreed-upon positions within the Gaza Strip, the so-called Yellow Line. The IDF stated that it has already begun operational preparations to implement the agreement. According to Reuters, the withdrawal of Israeli troops will occur within 24 hours of the agreement being reached. Within 72 hours, Hamas must hand over all living hostages and the bodies of the dead to the Israeli side. The group currently holds 48 captives, only 20 of whom are considered alive.
