ArmInfo.Yerevan insists that the Azerbaijani President's statement about the so-called "Zangezur Corridor" in no way applies to the territory of the Republic of Armenia. This was stated by Nazeli Baghdasaryan, press secretary for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, in response to a written inquiry from the state news agency "Armenpress."
It should be noted that today, speaking at the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that "another important outcome of the Washington summit was the opening of the Zangezur Corridor. The Zangezur Corridor is of great importance as a new transport artery and a second route within both the Middle Corridor and the North- South Corridor."
According to Baghdasaryan, the use of the term "Zangezur Corridor" was discussed at a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Copenhagen on October 2.
"Following the meeting between the Armenian Prime Minister and the Azerbaijani President in Copenhagen, both sides published press releases stating that they both acknowledge that the TRIPP project applies to the territory of Armenia, and therefore, there are not and cannot be any other projects on the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
We confirm that the statement by the Azerbaijani President in no way applies to the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Only the TRIPP and "Crossroads of the World" projects are being implemented in the Republic of Armenia, which is clearly enshrined in a number of international documents," she said.
Meanwhile, recently, from the podium of the Armenian parliament, Pashinyan suggested that by "Zangezur Corridor" the Azerbaijani leadership means a road on its territory, specifically between the cities of Horadiz and Zangelan. "Therefore, when they talk about the 'Zangezur Corridor,' you should know that they're not talking about Armenia; they're talking about their own territory. Therefore, let's consider this topic closed. ... They're using the term 'Zangezur Corridor.' Let them call it whatever they want; we have no problem," Pashinyan stated.
