ArmInfo. Azerbaijan and Turkey are doing everything they can to ensure that international cargo transiting Armenia as part of the Trump route brings minimal benefits to the country. Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition "With Honor" faction, made this statement during a briefing, regarding the issue of unblocking communications within the agreements reached in Washington.
In this regard, he mentioned that previously this issue was always discussed in the context of opening roads in all directions. However, today, Turkey and Azerbaijan, while considering some economic benefits for Armenia from this route, are seeking to maximize the economic, political, and military advantages for themselves alone. "As for Trump's route, we are faced with many conflicting approaches. For instance, while President Donald Trump talks about leasing the road, the Armenian authorities are declaring that this topic is not currently being discussed. In other words, this is a complex issue, with a lot of much controversy surrounding it," the MP noted.
Abrahamyan also touched on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that Azerbaijan refers to the Horadiz-Zangelan road as the so-called "Zangezur Corridor." The MP noted that he does not find such a statement logical and believes that the corridor logic is being discussed exclusively in the context of Azerbaijan using Armenian territory to connect with Nakhichevan.
The opposition figure also noted that the Azerbaijani president's statements at the UN give the impression that no negotiations took place in Washington. "Furthermore, we note that these statements even surprised the Prime Minister, who was confident that the agreements reached had resolved many issues," the MP concluded.
