ArmInfo. The ruling Civil Contract faction rejected the vote on amendments to the RA Criminal Code submitted by the opposition Armenia faction, which would have toughened penalties for denial of the Armenian Genocide.
Only 26 parliamentarians voted in favor of the document, two abstained, and 58 voted against.
As a reminder, the amendments proposed a new version of Article 136 of the RA Criminal Code. Specifically, public denial, justification, or downplaying of the Armenian Genocide would be punishable by a fine of 100 to 300 minimum wages, or community service for 150 to 250 hours, or short-term imprisonment for one to two months, or imprisonment for up to four years.
