ArmInfo.Despite the documents signed in Washington and the agreements reached, there is no progress in the process of signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Artur Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia from the opposition "Armenia" faction, stated this in a conversation with journalists on October 1.
According to him, when in 2018-2020, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan misled the public by claiming that there were no negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and that the parties were meeting only to understand each other. "Now he wants to sign a document that is controversial: Pashinyan says one thing, Aliyev wants another, and Trump has something completely different in mind, referring to the construction of a road that will be their concession for 99 years. The question arises: if there were no negotiations, why did they rush headlong to the US and sign these documents? The authorities' claims that peace has arrived are false; there is no peace and there can be no peace as long as Azerbaijan occupies part of Armenia's territory," the politician said. He added that, given Azerbaijan's constant demands and threats, talking about peace is frivolous.
The opposition leader also touched on the rights of refugees from Artsakh. According to him, it is not Pashinyan who should decide their fate, since the Karabakh people have not granted the head of the Armenian government the appropriate authority.
