ArmInfo. During a visit to Baku, Andranik Simonyan, Director of the RA National Security Service, handed over to the Azerbaijani side a list of 10 prisoners of war whom Armenia wants to return to their homeland as part of the normalization of bilateral relations. This was reported by the Armenian newspaper "Hraparak," citing a reliable source.
According to the newspaper, these individuals include Levon Balayan, David Alaverdyan, Melikset Pashayan, Garik Martirosyan, Vasily Beglaryan, Ludwig Mkrtchyan, Alyosha Khosrovyan, Gurgen Stepanyan, and Madat Babayan. Simonyan, however, made no mention of the release and return of eight senior military and political figures from Artsakh who are being "tried" in Baku.
However, in exchange for the release of these 10 individuals, the Azerbaijani side put forward a counter- list, demanding the release of two Syrian citizens - Mukhrab Muhammad al-Shkheri and Yousef Alabet al-Hajji - who participated in the 2020 war as terrorist mercenaries, committed numerous murders of civilians, and were sentenced to life imprisonment in Armenia in 2021.
"Our source reports that Andranik Simonyan has agreed to fulfill Azerbaijan's conditions," the statement emphasizes.
