ArmInfo. The claims that the alleged negotiations with Turkey's special representative for normalizing relations with Armenia Serdar Kilic are nothing more than an imitation of establishing relations are false. This was stated by the secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction Artur Hovhannisyan during a briefing on September 15.
He assured that the negotiations were held in a positive atmosphere, and the Armenian authorities expect further development of relations with their Turkish colleagues in line with the agreements reached at these meetings. "We hope that our agreements will be implemented, but this is all I can say on this topic at the moment. The statement released following the meeting, in fact, reflected everything that we have at the moment," Hovhannisyan noted.
The secretary of the ruling faction added that work is currently ongoing with representatives of the Turkish administration on other issues. In particular, we are talking about opening the border for citizens of third countries, diplomats, and so on. "We are working in this direction and the message that was distributed following the meeting was essentially about this," Hovhannisyan repeated. At the same time, he denied the statement by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty would be signed in the first half of 2026. According to Hovhannisyan, they rely exclusively on the agreements that were reached in Washington on August 8. "At the moment, the deadlines have not been determined, and we continue to carry out our actions based on the agreements and documents that are currently available. All other statements have nothing to do with these processes until they become official," Hovhannisyan summed up.
Turkey's Special Representative for Normalization of Relations with Armenia visited Yerevan on September 12. Moreover, he arrived through the closed Armenian-Turkish land border. At the Margara checkpoint, Serdar Kilic was met by the Special Representative for Normalization of Relations with Turkey Ruben Rubinyan. During the meeting, the Special Representatives of Armenia and Turkey agreed to accelerate the processes of implementing the border crossing agreement, make every effort to strengthen cooperation in the cultural and academic spheres. In addition, they agreed to carry out the necessary work to provide interested companies with the opportunity to operate flights to various destinations from the summer of 2026, which will increase the number of air routes and flights between the two countries. In conclusion, they reaffirmed their commitment to continue this process without any preconditions.
