ArmInfo. Turkey is conditioning normalization of relations with Armenia from the perspective of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, as stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, a parliament from the opposition faction "With Honor", during an interview with journalists, touching upon the upcoming visit of the Special Representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Serdar Kilic, to Armenia.
The MP expressed his conviction that this visit is an attempt to feign progress in Armenian-Turkish normalization. Abrahamyan believes that Turkey will try to demonstrate that progress in Armenian- Azerbaijani relations will enable them to take a step or two in Armenian-Turkish normalization. The politician recalled that the agreement to open the Armenian-Turkish border for citizens of third countries has not been implemented for more than a year, and now perhaps some steps will be taken in this regard. Further discussing the unblocking of communications and the opening of the route through Armenia, the oppositionist stated that the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem did everything to isolate Armenia as much as possible in this process.
"In fact, Turkey and Azerbaijan, through the declaration signed with Armenia and the "Trump Route", ignore the existence of an alternative road through Armenia. That is, Turkey and Azerbaijan made sure that traffic through Armenian territory was kept to a minimum. Thus, all trade will be carried out, by and large, on their territory, bypassing the railway already in place in Armenia," the deputy noted.
According to Abrahamyan, the statements claiming that the agreements reached meet the interests of Armenia do not actually correspond to reality, as we are talking about the minimum opportunities that will be available to the Armenian side.
