ArmInfo. A member of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Bureau, MP of the Armenia parliamentary faction Lilit Galstyan demanded that the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MSCS) Zhanna Andreasyan provide information on the progress of repair work carried out at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide and the Hovhannes Tumanyan Museum.
As the MP reminded on her Facebook page, work on both sites is currently suspended "due to the shameful and unacceptable sights found there." "Meanwhile, in addition to the fact that both of these structures are monuments of national significance, they are iconic places for all Armenians," Galstyan emphasized.
In this regard, in her letter to the Minister, she demanded to know who organized the competition for the repair and restoration of monuments and how, how many organizations took part in the competition, and how and by what criteria the organization that was to carry out the repair work was selected. "I also expect to receive information about whether the organization that won this competition has the experience and appropriate capabilities to repair a historical and cultural monument of national significance. How the design work for the repair was organized, whether the risks were assessed and whether a proper study of the monument, restoration methods and selection of materials was carried out," the deputy asks.
Galstyan also demanded an explanation as to why the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, as the customer, as well as the Urban Development Committee, which has inspection powers as a state authorized body, or Armproject, did not fulfill their functions imposed on them by law to implement departmental, author's and inspection control over the approved project and prevent damage to the monument. In the event, as the oppositionist continued, if inspection, supervision or author's work was carried out, she demanded that protocols be presented on the issues raised. "In addition, I want to know what approach the Ministry took regarding the project, which is currently suspended, and what solution it sees. And also, what responsibility will the officials bear who did not fulfill their powers and duties?", the ARF member added.
In turn, Armenian historian and genocide scholar Hayk Demoyan noted that exactly two years have passed since major repairs began at the Hovhannes Tumanyan Museum. He drew attention to the fact that the Ministry, having completely destroyed one of the buildings of the building, left the museum of the great Armenian in a deplorable state, which does not bother the head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Armenian SSR Zhanna Andresyan at all. "Meanwhile, the Minister resolutely states at every press conference how much money the Ministry of Education and Science of the Armenian SSR allocated, mainly for senseless projects that contain serious corruption risks. If you think that the Ministry is seriously thinking about how to ensure that the Tumanyan Museum is restored as soon as possible and begins to function as usual, then you are deeply mistaken. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Armenian SSR is currently calculating the amounts left over from the New Year trees and issued in accordance with the letter and requirements of the law. In their opinion, this is something much more serious. What is this Tsitsernakaberd, what is this Tumanyan?", Demoyan summed up.
Earlier, footage of the so-called repair work carried out on the territory of the memorial complex of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was distributed in the Armenian segment of social networks. Experts called the methods by which the work is carried out unacceptable.
