ArmInfo. Thanks to the state -oriented stance of the Armenian delegation under the previous government, Pakistan was not able to become an observer in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. However, today, the country's authorities are happy to establish relations with this country and present this as a diplomatic achievement, according to former vice-speaker of the Armenian parliament and member of the Republican Party (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov. He responded to the joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan on his telegram channel.
Sharmazaonov pointed out that throughout the entire process of settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Pakistan had maintained an openly anti-Armenian position. In this vein, the Republican noted that Pakistan unilaterally defended the positions of Azerbaijan at various parliamentary platforms. According to him, during the April 2016war, Pakistan issued five statements in support of Azerbaijan.
"After that, the Chairman of the Pakistani Parliament expressed interest in becoming an observer at the CSTO PA. However, as the decision required consensus, the consent of the head of the Armenian delegation was necessary. Most CSTO member countries were in favor of granting Pakistan observer status," Sharmazanov noted. However, their position was unambiguous. According to him, at that time Pakistan could only become an observer of the CSTO PA only under the following two conditions: if it recognizes Armenia and the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination within the framework of the Fundamental Principles developed by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. "In other words, we did not allow Pakistan to become an observer at the CSTO PA, and the ruling Civil Contract party is now establishing diplomatic relations with Pakistan. Meanwhile, the ruling party's "diplomacy" is simple: the hand that they cannot cut off, they kiss and place on the head of our people. Let's see whose hand they will "kiss" next," Sharmazanov concluded.
